Welding technology
The continuous improvement of welding processes is an ongoing quality assurance task at SMB.
TiP TiG-welding:
At the beginning of 2020, we invested in a TiP TiG welding automation system.
The TIG hot wire process already used at SMB Rohrleitungsbau is now supplemented by a turntable and also a movable welding arm. With this, circumferential and also longitudinal welds can now be produced fully mechanically.
The result, especially for our customers, is an outstanding leap in quality and quantity in the prefabrication of larger spools. The welding procedure qualification records and operator qualification tests carried out with this equipment are a further addition to our WPQRs according to DIN EN ISO 15614-1 at SMB Rohrleitungsbau.
Orbital welding:
Furthermore, SMB Rohrleitungsbau is using open orbital TIG welding heads since the end of 2020.
As a result of this, materials can be processed mechanically and precisely controlled with and without filler metal.
The orbital TIG welding technology is used at SMB Rohrleitungsbau especially in the processing of stainless steels. With this and also with the integrated residual oxygen measuring instruments, the high quality requirements in stainless steel processing are reliably fulfilled.
Ventilation ducts, embedded parts - Particle accelerator FAIR North / South
For the FAIR particle accelerator facility in Darmstadt, one of the largest construction projects in international research, SMB Rohrleitungsbau Wildau is supplying embedded parts, stainless steel pipes and PE-coated carbon steel pipes. These wall ducts, channels and pipes are manufactured at our headquarters workshop, delivered to Darmstadt for on-site assembly and installed. The underground pipelines were mounted on site up to 24m underground.
